After wearing the captain’s armband in the Dutch Eredivisie, Denzel Dumfries will now captain the PSV side in a Europa League match for the first time. He insists PSV are full of confidence ahead of the clash with Sporting CP.
PSV, Sporting CP as well as LASK have a chance to qualify for the Europa League knockout stages, so Mark van Bommel’s side need a result in the Estádio José Alvalade. ‘’It is a crucial game for us. We know the standings and realise we need a result.”
PSV claimed a win over sc Heerenveen last weekend and Dumfries looks to take advantage of the positive momentum. “We put on a dominant first-half display and it’s important to build from the sc Heerenveen game going forward. We need to believe in ourselves. We got off our Europa League campaign to a bright start with a 3-2 victory against Sporting CP. We failed to meet expectations against LASK but I am sure we will perform well on Thursday night.”
Focus is the key word
Dumfries thinks focus is the key word. Following the win over the Frisian side, PSV face some crucial encounters. “I was happy with Sunday’s win but on Monday we started to prepare for the next game. I expect an open game of football and, again, we need full focus to get a massive result.”
