30-year-old Daniel Schwaab has agreed personal terms with PSV and returns to the Philips Stadion on a one-year deal. “We looked to bolster our defensive options with the signing of a defender who adds experience to the team”, explained PSV director of football John de Jong. “And Daniel Schwaab is the perfect player to do that.”
Schwaab left PSV at the end of last season and returned to his native country due to family reasons. “I made the right decision right then”, says Schwaab. “But after having spent three months with my wife and children, I want to return to PSV with renewed ambition.”
‘Schwaab leads by example’
PSV looked to added Schwaab to the first-team squad for a variety of reasons. “He is not only an experienced defender but brings massive personality to the squad”, says head coach Mark van Bommel. “He leads by example both on and off the pitch. I am happy Daniel is back.”
‘Some players will leave PSV’
Director of football John de Jong has indicated that Schwaab’s return may mean that some players who find first-team appearances limited, will leave PSV. “We expect to say goodbye to some players who need to get more minutes under their belt. Talks are ongoing”, confirmed De Jong.
