Daniel Schwaab made his final appearance for PSV in the Philips Stadion on Wednesday night. The German defender, who made more than 100 appearances for PSV, bade farewell to the fans with a touching speech at the end of PSV’s 3-1 win over Heracles Almelo. Schwaab is leaving PSV after three years and thanked the home crowd for their tremendous support. “I love you all”, he said, as he addressed the crowd with a microphone.
“I have had three great seasons here. We clinched the Eredivisie title last season, which has been the highlight of my career. Thanks to this group of players and the coaches. It’s been an absolute pleasure and honour to play for PSV”, he said, after which the crowd rose to applaud.
Daniel Schwaab received a standing ovation when he was taken off two minutes from the end. Captain Luuk de Jong went in search of a goal to end the season as the Eredivisie top scorer, but failed to find the net. Dusan Tadic bagged a brace in Ajax’s 4-1 win at de Graafschap and Luuk de Jong and Tadic are now joint top scorers of the 2018/19 Eredivisie season with 28 goals. “We’ve fought until the end and it’s been a good season but it was no enough to lift a trophy”, said De Jong in a post-match interview. PSV collected 49 points from their 17 home games this season, equaling a club record. They will return for pre-season training on 18 June.
