Phillip Cocu said he was upset after seeing his side drop two precious points in a 1-1 draw with sc Heerenveen. PSV’s head coach was in particular unhappy with the first-half display. “We put in a below-par first-half performance”, he admitted in his post-match interview.
‘Lacked focus up front’
Cocu said it had been a classic game of two halves. “We couldn’t find our rhythm in the first half and actually should have put the game to bed in the closing stages.” Cocu conceded at the post-match conference that he was upset by his team’s sloppy start. “We should have shown confidence on the ball and aggression and we should have played a high tempo game, but we didn’t. It was really a below-par first-half performance”, said Cocu. “I asked the players during the half-time talk to at least up a gear or two and demanded focus on this game rather than on next week’s clashes. Once we were a goal down we responded well. It’s too bad we could not score the winning goal. We lacked focus up front today.”
Foppe de Haan’s post-match reaction
sc Heerenveen boss Foppe de Haan was content with taking one point away from the match in Eindhoven. “We fought hard and kept going as we knew we would face a difficult test at the Philips Stadion against an in-form PSV side. We’ve prepared the game very well and it fortunately paid off.” De Haan emphasised that it had been important not to concede a goal in the first twenty minutes. “As the clock ticked down, it gets increasingly difficult for a team to score a winning goal. I’m very content with taking one point away.”
