Facing the media at De Herdgang training ground on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of Wednesday’s clash at FC Groningen, PSV head coach Phillip Cocu was confident the players have quickly shaken off the defeat at Ajax. “There is a determination among the players to bounce back against FC Groningen.”
“Show our true face as soon as possible”
PSV’s ten-match winning streak in the Eredivisie came to an end with a 3-0 defeat at Ajax on Sunday. “We put in a poor display. We analysed the Ajax game, but we won’t look back any longer and know we have to show our true face as soon as possible.”
”FC Groningen have been inconsistent”
FC Groningen, managed by former PSV assistant coach Ernest Faber, have been inconsistent so far. It is typical of FC Groningen this season to follow up a good result with a bad one. They are currently sitting in twelfth place, following last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Roda JC Kerkrade. “We always face a tough test away at FC Groningen”, said Cocu. “They are a good football team and have some skilful players. There are lessons we can take from the Ajax game to improve our performance. We will have to be much better than we were in Amsterdam.”
Jürgen Locadia faces a spell on the sidelines for up to six to eight weeks after picking up a hamstring injury at Ajax and will miss the game in the Noordlease Stadion. “We have an almost full complement of players to choose from and someone else will be given a chance to shine”, concluded Cocu.
