Following PSV´s 4-2 away win at AZ, both head coaches agreed at the post-match conference that the crowd had been treated to a cracking game in the AFAS Stadion.
Cocu´s post-match reaction
“It was a cracking performance from both teams”, said Phillip Cocu. “Apart from the very first minute, we got off to a great start and scored two early goals. We even had chances to add a third and kill off the game. Then we took our foot off the pedal and AZ came back into the game and straight after the break it was 2-2. My team responded wonderfully and we soon restored a two-goal advantage. We could have scored more goals but failed to finish off the chances. But we collected another three points in a tough away fixture”, said Cocu. PSV´s head coach added: “Karim Rekik was taken off with a suspected hamstring injury on 41 minutes, but the extent of his injury will not be known until he has an MRI on Saturday.”
Van den Brom hails AZ attacking display
“In spite of the defeat, I have thoroughly enjoyed the match”, said AZ head coach John van den Brom. “Although we were two goals down, we managed to pull one back on the stroke of half-time. We urged the players to go in search of an equaliser and were soon rewarded for our attacking play. We got carried away, though, and that cost us dearly. We were only focused on surging forward and PSV capitalised on the tactical mistakes and put the game to bed. But the crowd has been treated to a cracking game. We realise we have lost the game but we have lost in style”, concluded Van den Brom.
