PSV head coach Phillip Cocu expects an open game against Willem II on Saturday, with an 18.30 kick-off.
“Willem II, currently lying tenth in the table, are a good side who play good football”, he told the media at his weekly press briefing. “They’ve put in impressive team displays lately. I think there is a good confidence in their squad and they have a dangerous striker. Samuel Armenteros knows how to play as a target man and is a prolific goalscorer.”
Counter attacking football
Cocu played down critical comments of PSV opting too much for a counter attacking strategy. “I don’t necessarily agree. It’s all about winning but I don’t think we are a team that is on their own half of the field most of the time.”
Cocu is keen to sign a new player as Florian Jozefzoon is ruled out for the rest of the season. “I can’t say much but I think the team is in need of reinforcement, now that we have only four forwards. But we may also promote a youth player to the senior squad.” Cocu then offered an injury update on Jetro Willems. “He will be called up to Saturday’s match squad. He was ill but he has meanwhile returned to full training.“. Cocu added that Jorrit Hendrix is still two weeks away from a comeback. “He is back in training and is fit but a return to match fitness will take about two weeks”, concluded Cocu.
