After overseeing the Friday morning training session, PSV head coach Phillip Cocu looked ahead to Saturday evening’s Eredivisie clash at Vitesse. “They don’t go out just to defend but to play attractive and attacking football, which may be to our advantage”, said Cocu.
Cocu: Vitesse´s style of play has not changed
Cocu lauded the qualities of Vitesse. The Arnhem based team are having a fine season although there are many new faces. Cocu told the media that Vitesse´s style of play has not changed that much. “They still want to retain possession with good passing and movement to put their opponents under pressure. They never go out just to defend but rather play attractive and attacking football, which may be to our advantage.”, said Cocu
“I think we will get our chances against Vitesse in Arnhem. We will meet a team that allows us to play our own game, but they have quality players and we need 100 per cent focus and will have to be at our best to get a good result. Their squad has a good mix of young, talented players and experienced first-team regulars”, said Cocu. PSV will be without the injured Simon Poulsen, Luciano Narsingh and Jetro Willems in Arnhem.
'Happy to have Lestienne back'
Maxime Lestienne will also miss Saturday’s game. The Belgian returned to training yesterday for the first time in five weeks but is obviously not yet match fit. Cocu is happy to welcome him back at De Herdgang training facilities. “I am glad Lestienne is back with us. He has gone through some very hard times. We will do all we can to support him in his grief. It’s good to see him back on the pitch. He was enjoying the training session and he was even smiling again”, said Cocu.
