PSV head coach Phillip Cocu is adamant that everyone’s focus is on the visit of sc Heerenveen on Saturday. “We will have to keep up the momentum from our last win. We will not turn our attention to the upcoming crucial fixtures against Atlético Madrid and Ajax until the beginning of next week”, said Cocu during his weekly press briefing at De Herdgang training facilities on Friday afternoon.
Focus is on the next game
PSV face a run of two massive games against Atlético Madrid and Ajax next week, but Cocu is confident the focus is on the next game, when PSV entertain sc Heerenveen. “We always look at the next game first. It’s important to continue our winning streak and take a morale-boosting victory into the next game. I am sure the players know they’ve just got to concentrate on the next game”, said Cocu, who added that PSV will take nothing for granted against the Frisian side. “Sc Heerenveen perform inconsistently at times but are a fine team. We will have to handle their pace up front”. Cocu reiterated he demands PSV are fully focused on the game against sc Heerenveen.
Phillip Cocu is not expected to risk rotating his squad against sc Heerenveen on Saturday, although Davy Pröpper is one booking away from suspension and will miss the crunch clash against Ajax if he picks up a booking on Saturday. Cocu feels that Pröpper will not be unduly worried. “It may affect his game if he too concerned about being booked.” PSV have received media acknowledgement and praise for a string of solid performances but Cocu insisted there is still plenty of room of improvement. “We are having a fine spell but there is no room for complacency at this stage of the campaign”, concluded Cocu.
