20 October 2016 is a very special day for Phillip Cocu. PSV’s head coach turned 46 today and tonight he will meet Vitesse, the club where he spent five seasons.
25 goals in yellow-black colours
Cocu scored 25 goals in 137 appearances for Vitesse, of which one against PSV. As a PSV player he netted two Eredivisie goals against Vitesse. The Arnhem based club recorded two victories over PSV and Phillip Cocu featured in both games. Vitesse claimed a 1-0 win in 1997, thanks to a goal from Arco Jochemsen, with Cocu handed a start for PSV. Vitesse also registered a home win over PSV in 1993, with Cocu wearing a yellow and black shirt.
PSV have more shots on target than any other team
PSV have bombarded their opponents’ goal the past ten Eredivisie games. They had 109 shots on target, more than any other Eredivisie team. Yet, only 8% of all efforts resulted into a goal. Only Willem II and Roda JC have a worse record in that respect. PSV will have to show more sharpness in front of goal when they face Vitesse tonight.
Goal scoring opportunities
PSV scored at least one goal in their last 35 away games in the Dutch top flight, netting 14 out of 17 goals on their travels this season. They would welcome a penalty decision that goes their way, as Vitesse goalkeeper Eloy Room could not save any of the seventeen penalties in his career as an Eredivisie shot stopper. Striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel has found the back of the net five times this season so far, but has not scored a goal against PSV yet.
