24-year-old Anika Rodriguez has signed a one-year contract extension with PSV Women until 2022.
First goal for PSV
Rogriguez, born and raised in Los Angeles, is a Mexican-American dual citizen, who joined PSV Women from Portland Thorns FC during the winter break. Rogriguez, a versatile player who can play in defence as well as attack, recently scored her first goal for PSV in the 1-1 draw with ADO Den Haag.
Her family saw Rogriguez open her scoring account for PSV on TV and watched her sign her new contract via a ZOOM meeting. “I felt homesick at first, missed my family and had a tough start in Europe”, admits Rodriguez. “But the coaching staff and my teammates have made me feel welcome and I have meanwhile completely adapted to the new conditions. In America, we play intense, fast and energetic football and I am glad our coach in Eindhoven also likes his team to press high on the pitch. I am looking forward to playing my part here at PSV.”
