PSV head coach Mark van Bommel was relieved by his side’s 2-1 win over FC Groningen. “We put in a fine display but when FC Groningen had reduced the deficit, we were made to sweat and survived a few scares”, said Van Bommel in his post-match interview.
‘Suddenly lost control’
Van Bommel saw his team produce a good first-half performance. “We were terrific until the 35th minute and deservedly took a 2-0 lead. We created plenty of chances and the three points looked to be in the bag, but suddenly we lost control”, said van Bommel. “We couldn’t find our rhythm and were happy to hold on for a narrow win in the end. We tried to regain the momentum but failed to do so.”
Lozano
Hirving Lozano found the net twice before he was carried off with a head injury on the stroke of half time. “We were dealt with a terrific blow. Lozano sustained a nasty head injury following a clash of heads with Tom Handwerker and was taken to hospital. “Things didn’t look well. He is in hospital and will undergo assessment.”
Pereiro
PSV;s head coach had included Gastón Pereiro in the starting XI. The Uruguayan capped a solid display with a wonderful assist for the second goal. “Gastón knows how to play between the lines and has shown his class tonight."
