After enjoying his shortest summer holiday ever, Cody Gakpo is already looking forward to a new season with PSV. The 22-year-old forward, who was made vice-captain on Tuesday afternoon, looked back after his first few training sessions at PSV Campus De Herdgang at the 2020 Euro, but also looked ahead to the new season. “I just can’t wait to get back on the pitch!”
“I’m very happy to be back here. After the 2020 Euro I went straight on holiday and I will now explore what the upcoming season has in store for us. It was very special to make my Netherlands debut. It is a dream come true. It has been a great experience for me, apart from the early exit from the tournament of course.”
“I still think we could have come a long way. We had a squad of good players and the team spirit was just great. I got along well with my PSV team mates Denzel Dumfries and Donyell Malen welcomed me and helped me find my way when I joined the Netherlands squad. Playing at the highest level was just terrific; it was an experience that left me wanting more.”
Raring to go
“I didn't miss much, reading all the transfer updates on social media. It was the first training session, together with Denzel and Donyell, and I watched the pre-season friendlies. I think we will stick to the same style of play as last season. . “I just can’t wait to get back on the pitch and I am raring to go!
“I feel fit as I haven’t been away for such a long time. I think you gain match fitness best by playing games. So let’s get started.”
