“The result is just very disappointing”

PSV head coach Roger Schmidt was very disappointed after his side crashed to a 4-0 defeat against Feyenoord. “It’s frustrating, it’s disappointing. We’ve got to pick ourselves up”, he said, speaking after the game.

Disappointing
“The result is just very disappointing. This was a massive game for us and our fans”, said Schmidt. “We should have created more chances. I don’t expect us to be at our very best in all 34 league games but we should be ready for the challenge of reaching our levels in the big games. Today we were struggling.” Such a humiliating defeat can have an impact on the team, but Schmidt insists this is the moment to show character. “There are some lessons to be learnt. Life is not always a bed of roses. There’s also a dark side to football. We must learn from the experience and bounce back.”

A below-par display
Captain Cody Gakpo admitted it had been a tough afternoon for his team. “We never met expectations and put in a below-par display. We play a lot of games in quick succession but that will never serve as an excuse. We could not put enough pressure on the Feyenoord defence and should have been more energetic. We should have been ready for such a big game but we weren’t. This should not have happened and we are very disappointed.”

Focus on Wednesday
PSV were dealt a severe blow and Schmidt thinks it is very important that PSV pick themselves up and stick together. “We must bite back in our next game. We were not good enough and frequently made the wrong choices. We must learn from our mistakes and focus on Wednesday’s game away from home against Go Ahead Eagles.”
