PSV Women face a tough challenge right after the winter break. On Sunday, Roeland ten Berge 's team travels to Zwolle for the first league match of the new year. One of the new faces at PSV is Janice Cayman. The Belgian international has experienced a warm welcome in her first weeks in Eindhoven and is eagerly awaiting her official debut in red and white.
PSV Women visited PEC Zwolle eighteen times in the past. Eleven of those games were won, two ended undecided and five were won by the home team. With a goal difference of 36 for and 24 against, the numbers speak in favor of PSV, although recent encounters show that PEC Zwolle is a difficult opponent.
In March 2023, PSV Women lost 4-0 in Zwolle, followed by a 2-0 defeat in October of the same year. However, the most recent mutual duel, in February 2025, yielded a positive result: a narrow 1-0 victory for PSV. Riola Xhemaili then crowned himself matchwinner with the only goal of the match.
Close together
PSV Women currently occupies third place with 22 points, while PEC Zwolle follows in fifth place with 21 points. All ingredients are thus present for an exciting and fought battle. For Janice Cayman it may be a special game: her first official match in the PSV shirt and her first encounter with PEC Zwolle beckons.
Warm welcome and perfect timing
The first weeks at PSV have been excellent for Janice Cayman. The experienced Belgian record international felt at home within the selection from day one and also took advantage of the training camp in Malta to integrate quickly. "I am very happy to be here. Everyone is super cheerful and enthusiastic and the girls gave me a very friendly and warm welcome," said the defender. The fact that she already knew some of the players helped, but especially hanging out together off the field made the difference. "In Malta you were together all day: training, in the hotel, free time. That was the perfect timing to get to know each other in a more intense way."
More ball possession and tactical jousting
According to the Belgian, the football PSV Women strives for fits its qualities well. She notices clear differences from the English league she comes from. "In England, the game was much more based on switching," she explains. "Here we want more ball possession and tactically it's more of a jousting game." She visibly likes that approach. "We want to solve it soccer-wise and that suits my game well. I also felt that in the practice matches in Malta."
Focus on own qualities against PEC Zwolle
Janice is realistic but positive about the upcoming opponent PEC Zwolle. Although she does not know the team well yet, she sees enough starting points to step onto the field with confidence. "I know them mostly from the footage we've seen," she says. "We are playing in the stadium and on normal grass, which are two fine points in the preparation."
She says the task is clear: "We have to start from our own qualities and show them. It is an important match, we are close in the rankings, but it is in our own hands. Hopefully something surprising will happen at Twente - Ajax, but we just have to win on Sunday."
