Women

With their European victory over Fortuna Hjørring under their belt, PSV Women face their next challenge on Saturday afternoon against De Graafschap. Seventeen-year-old Aymee Altena, new to PSV this season, looks ahead to the match.

PSV Women had a successful European match last Wednesday, defeating the Danish team Fortuna Hjørring 1–0. However, there isn’t much time to dwell on the victory. Kasper Kurland’s team is playing three matches this week, so the focus quickly shifts to the next one. Still, according to Aymee, the victory provides a positive boost heading into Saturday. “A win like this just gives us extra energy to step it up even more.”

Saturday marks the sixth league match of the season. De Graafschap has earned six points from five matches so far, while PSV has earned seven. With European matches added to the mix, the team has a busy schedule. “We’re taking it one game at a time right now, but we know what we have to do.”

First Meeting
De Graafschap is playing in the Eurojackpot Women’s Eredivisie for the first time this season, after being promoted from the Women’s First Division last year. This is therefore also the first time the two clubs will face each other in league play. Aymee expects an exciting match. “They’re a team that plays good football, and they’ve had some solid results. Both teams want to play their own brand of football—I think it’s going to be a great game.”

A Lightning Start
For Aymee, this is her first season with PSV. The player joined from sc Heerenveen this summer and has since made her debut, started a game, and also played minutes in European competition. “It’s all happened so fast. I’ve been here just over a month and have already played so many minutes. I’m really, really happy that I got this opportunity so quickly.”

On Saturday afternoon, Altena may once again get the chance to show what it’s made of. “I’m hoping for a good game with action, dribbles, and scoring chances. And a goal or an assist—that would be nice.”
