An important duel awaits Peter Bosz 's team tonight at the Allianz Stadium. Juventus experienced peaks and troughs in their European performances, qualifying with two points less than PSV. Below is an insight into their UEFA Champions League campaign so far.
Good start
Juventus had a successful start to their European adventure. 'The Old Lady' won 3-1 over PSV after a strong performance at their own stadium and managed to register the first goal on the scoreboard after only twenty minutes. The next game, against RB Leipzig, was a true feast of goals. Despite a red card, Thiago Motta's team won the game 3-2.
VfB Stuttgart was the white-blacks' next opponent. The German team showed supremacy in Italy, with as many as 22 shots against just seven from Juventus. Although both teams had an equal ball possession percentage of 50%, it was the Germans who ended up with the victory.
Equal games
Visiting French side Lille OSC, despite as many as 25 crosses, the Italians managed to score only one goal through a penalty kick by Dušan Vlahović. The home team opened the scoring before that, but both teams did not get beyond a 1-1 draw. The following game on a visit to Aston Villa also ended in a draw. The game at Villa Park remained scoreless.
The Italians got a boost after this, as they defeated Manchester City 2-0 at their own stadium. Once again the goal scorer was Dušan Vlahović, and Weston Mckennie also scored. Despite the fact that almost all statistics pointed in the direction of the English, Thiago Motta's team managed to strike through fast counter attacks.
Moderate final offensive
The winning streak did not continue, as the Italians failed to find the net on a visit to Club Brugge. The match was changeable with chances for both teams, however, the score appeared to be decided from the start and remained 0-0.
Juventus played the last game of this phase at home, but it did not yield a good result. Benfica took an early lead and scored the first goal in the 16th minute, scored by former AZ player Vangelis Pavlidis. In the closing stages of the match, former Feyenoord player Orkun Kökçü decided the game with the 2-0.
