Excelsior managed to retain their place in the Eredivisie last season by drawing 2-2 against FC Utrecht on the penultimate matchday. After eight rounds of play, Fons Groenendijk's team is in the middle of the table at the highest level in the Netherlands.

One win over PSV
Excelsior is not really making a mark yet in the new season. The Rotterdammers, who were coached last year by Marinus Dijkhuizen, are twelfth in the Eredivisie with eight points. In their first Eredivisie games they lost to FC Groningen and direct rival N.E.C., but that was offset by a fine draw against AZ and a 3-0 win over De Graafschap. Also the last Eredivisie match the points stayed at Woudestein; Excelsior beat FC Utrecht 1-0. The chances of Excelsior retaining the three points against PSV are a lot less based on the statistics. Only once did the Rotterdammers win at PSV. That was on October 30, 1971.

Star keeper Tom van Weert
After six seasons in the Jupiler League, Tom van Weert swapped FC Den Bosch for Excelsior in the 2014-2015 season. During his first season for the Rotterdammers, the striker immediately scored thirteen goals. Currently, Van Weert stands at one goal, scored during the home game against FC Twente, which ended 1-1. Van Weert is ahead of Auassar, Stans and Kuwas in Excelsior's top scorer rankings, all three players are on two goals.
