With a 4-0 victory in their pocket, PSV can advance to the semifinals of the TOTO KVNB Cup. After a lesser phase in the Eredivisie, Roger Schmidt is proud that the team has recovered.
Intensity
"We took the match seriously and performed well," reflected the Head Coach. "With three goals in the first half it was done but still we didn't give away any chances. From the beginning we went for goals and that intensity worked. In the second half we didn't give away any chances and that's important. In such a phase you have to keep your back straight. We could have scored more, but I am satisfied with the performance on the pitch."
All players
For Noni Madueke, it was a comeback to dream of, Schmidt noticed. With a goal and an assist, he was crowned man of the match. "I'm happy to have him back," the Head Coach said. "Noni played great at the beginning of the season. We need to get him back to his old level, but today he already played incredibly well. He made a great first step. Carlos Vinícius is also back and Erick Gutiérrez and Ibrahim Sangaré are back from international duty. We have a lot more options now."
Special tournament
Schmidt plans to give everything to win the KNVB Beker. We will also give everything in the next round: "Every competition is important to me and the KNVB Cup is a special tournament. You always play against teams with a real winner's mentality. We have taken an important step towards the final victory."
