PSV has won the Johan Cruijff Schaal for the 11th time in club history. In an enthralling battle with Feyenoord, a goal by Davy Pröpper proved sufficient. Phillip Cocu thus took his fifth prize as head coach of PSV.

Pröpper breaks the spell
Cocu, who had Schwaab make his debut in the starting lineup, could look back on the first half with satisfaction. His team seized the initiative after a quarter of an hour of exploration on both sides and did not relinquish it for the entire first half. PSV looked sharp, dominated Feyenoord's football before the break and expressed that in the score thanks to a goal by Pröpper. The midfielder dived clear into the Rotterdammers' penalty area in the 38th minute and slid the ball with some precision into the far corner behind goalkeeper Hansson. It was by no means PSV's only danger before halftime. Guardado hit the bar from a free kick in the opening stages and De Jong should have put PSV ahead from the spot, but he missed a penalty kick.

Feyenoord storms, PSV wins
Cocu will be less satisfied with the course of the second half. Feyenoord were much better after the break than in the first 45 minutes and soon had chances to equalize. Vilhena had an excellent save from Zoet, Toornstra missed in a promising position and Guardado cleared a header from defender Botteghin off the line. Locadia only managed a dangerous shot from distance on behalf of PSV. Only in the closing stages did PSV regain some grip on Feyenoord's attacking play. Via Willems and Narsingh the team even had the chance to put the game away, but Pröpper's one goal was ultimately enough to give Phillip Cocu his fifth prize as head coach of PSV after two titles, a KNVB Cup and last season's Johan Cruijff Schaal.
