After the 1-1 draw against FC Groningen Sunday afternoon, PSV knows the club will end the season next Sunday as number three in the Eredivisie. Head coach Phillip Cocu called the result typical of the season. 'It was too often just not. That's why we finish third.'
Cocu drew that conclusion at the press conference at the Noordlease Stadium. In that same stadium, he saw his team fight for victory in the closing stages, but at the same time started the match moderately. "We had the intention to start the same as we did two weeks ago against Ajax, but I absolutely did not see that reflected on the pitch," he bemoaned.
"I was very disappointed with that. At halftime we tightened things up and opted for a 3-4-3 system. That made things run a little better, but it's typical of the season that we didn't get beyond a draw. It was too often just a miss. That's why we finished third. Next season we have to pick it up differently."
Lammers
Cocu did praise the performance of Sam Lammers, who saved a point for PSV. "He showed excellent today. That is important for us, considering the future. He has made great strides this season, even after the slump he had in the middle of this year. Sam is absolutely the bright spot today," the head coach told FOX Sports.
Lammers himself was in front of the camera with double feelings. On the one hand he was beaming because of his first goal in PSV 1, but on the other hand the striker was disappointed with the disallowed 1-2. "If that had counted, I was really standing here with a good feeling
