PSV fights Ajax with venom
So reads the headline above a column by Wilfried de Jong. The columnist praises PSV striker Luuk de Jong in his piece, "PSV's striker fights his way through. In the first half hour, this Eindhoven man was alternately cushion, transit port and battering ram. De Jong was unyielding." The booster of PSV's solid play, according to De Jong, is head coach Van Bommel: "In a short time, he has turned PSV into a fighting machine: a solid defense, workers in midfield and fast outfield players up front." Bergwijn knew the spoils were in after the 1-0
"After the 1-0 I already had the feeling that we would win," Bergwijn said in conversation with De Telegraaf. "We knew how Ajax wanted to play football here, we responded well to that. We also gave little away after the 1-0. This feels very good. The important thing now is to hold on to this in the coming period." De Telegraaf also spoke with Viergever after the topper. You can read his reaction here.
PSV unstoppable on own field for 35 league matches already
There was nothing to be gained again yesterday at Philips Stadium. PSV is now unbeaten for 35 home matches in a row. 'PSV soon to talk to Rosario about new contract '
The Eindhovens Dagblad writes Monday morning that PSV and Rosario will soon sit down to talk about a new contract. The midfielder's current contract expires in 2020.
'Note with Schöne statement motivated PSV players '
PSV was extra motivated yesterday, according to Rosario, by a bill containing a statement by Ajax midfielder Schöne. The bill stated that the Amsterdammers would be at the top of the Eredivisie after Sunday (yesterday). "That bill gave us extra motivation," Rosario said afterwards. "We wanted to show that talk beforehand is not good. You have to wait for the match and based on that match you can only make statements."
'PSV looks eager and sharp '
Willem van Hanegem saw a great contrast between PSV and Ajax on Sunday, according to a column in the AD. The former football player praised PSV's attitude and development: "I saw a PSV that really went all out to win. That looked for the duels and knew exactly where it could strike when it captured the ball." Read more from Van Hanegem here.
Luuk de Jong Player of the Week VI
According to Voetbal International, De Jong made the difference yesterday in the topper between PSV and Ajax. The striker was therefore also voted VI Player of the Week.
