PSV O19 crowned themselves overall champions of the Netherlands last weekend. Vincent Heilmann 's team proved in a convincing season that it was the best in the country with Robin van Duiven as the absolute standout.
In the first half of the season, it was AZ that won the fall competition. PSV O19 finished fourth despite convincing wins. However, the team showed to be a strong team with a lot of scoring ability.
Spring offensive
Vincent Heilmann 's team started the spring season excellently with a 3-1 win over AZ. Boet Mulders, Noah Fernandez and Gino Verhulst were the goal scorers. Two draws against Willem II and Ajax followed, in which Robin van Duiven scored twice. PSV recovered and set a fine winning streak: FC Utrecht, FC Twente/Heracles Almelo, Feyenoord and PEC Zwolle were beaten by large numbers. After a defeat against Ajax, PSV showed resilience again with a convincing 3-0 victory over Feyenoord.
Final phase
In the final phase of the season, things got extremely exciting. On May 24 a crucial away game against AZ was scheduled. Robin van Duiven scored the equalizer in Alkmaar, but PSV eventually lost 3-1. A few days later, PSV had another chance to become spring champions in a midweek game with Willem II. Although Rivas Manuhutu, Fabio Kluit and Robin van Duiven scored, the Tilburgers drew 5-3. AZ did not get beyond a draw against Ajax that same day, so PSV became spring champions. Vincent Heilmann 's team awaited an all-decisive meeting with AZ for the overall championship.
Championship game
PSV Campus de Herdgang was the battleground for the winner of the spring championship PSV and the fall champion AZ. In an exciting and evenly matched first half, goals remained out, although AZ was very threatening. After halftime, however, it was PSV that scored the goal: Robin van Duiven coolly used a penalty kick to give his team the coveted title. PSV crowned themselves overall champions of the Netherlands and received the trophy from club icon Berry van Aerle.
