Phillip Cocu looked back on the 3-1 victory over FC Utrecht with a happy feeling. "Today the three points were simply the most important thing, especially with Feyenoord - Ajax on the program," the head coach said afterwards at the press conference at Philips Stadium.
Reaction Phillip Cocu
Cocu noted that his team fell back a little too far after a fine start. "We started the game excellently, partly because we hammered on that this week. Unfortunately, as a result, some tension fell off the team. Unfortunately, that happens sometimes after an early lead," Cocu said. After the break PSV had two good chances to increase the score. They did not succeed, however, after which FC Utrecht came alongside. "It was unfortunate that we couldn't strike again immediately after halftime," Cocu said. "As a result, it remained a game. After the 1-1 we really had a lesser phase, but after bringing in two fresh guys we got a grip again and through good goals we walked out to a good win. A deserved one too."
Support
Cocu also paid attention to the role of the crowd in his discussion. The coach praised the way it supported the team last Tuesday but, to his disappointment, did not always see that reflected today. "Tuesday the crowd showed that when they support us we are capable of great things. It's unfortunate that today some of our fans spoke negatively towards two PSV players. I am disappointed about that. Everyone on our team has the intention to help PSV in a good way."
Reaction Erik ten Hag
Erik ten Hag was a bit more concise after the match. He felt his team had missed opportunities for a stunt. "We wanted to match PSV and at times that went well, but our mistakes were punished. PSV struggled with our play, we were good and focused, but after the 1-1 we became overconfident. We were punished for that. We could have got a result today," the FC Utrecht coach concluded.
