PSV went down fighting last night against Vincent Kompany's team. PSV was close to reaching the intermediate round of the UEFA Champions League, but Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane decided the game in the closing stages. While Peter Bosz 's team did reach the next round the past two seasons, this season it is stranded in the league phase.

Peter Bosz 's team made it clear from the first minute that it had only one goal: to win. A windfall ahead of the game with Bayern Munich was the return of Guus Til to the starting lineup. The midfielder had recovered from the injury he sustained against Newcastle United. Ismael Saibari, who was suspended from the previous UEFA Champions League game, also started again.

Saibari celebrated (briefly) his birthday
Birthday boy Ismael Saibari provided the equalizer with an excellent goal after an attack he set up himself. For Ismael, it was his third goal in this European tournament and already his 12th goal of the season. The man of the assist was Joey Veerman. He recorded his eleventh assist of this season and his first in this Champions League campaign.

Review of the campaign
PSV started the UEFA Champions League with a home match against Union Saint-Gilloise, which was lost 1-3. It then drew 1-1 against Bayer Leverkusen. The first victory came at home against SSC Napoli: an impressive 6-2 win, one of the highlights of this European adventure.

In the away match against Olympiacos, they again drew 1-1. Then followed a surprising and handsome victory at Anfield, where PSV was too strong for Liverpool with 1-4. They then lost 2-3 to Atlético Madrid in Eindhoven. The second-to-last match resulted in a 3-0 defeat against Newcastle United.

After seven rounds of play, PSV was on eight points. After Saibari's equalizer against Bayern Munich, placement for the next round seemed virtually within reach, but the Germans ended that quickly in the end.
