Jürgen Locadia decided Sunday afternoon's topper against Ajax. In the 25th minute at Philips Stadium, the striker claimed the ball and left Ajax goalkeeper Onana defenseless. "I thought: just shoot," he said.
'Just had to win'
Locadia gave his reaction in the wings of the Philips Stadium to NOS and FOX Sports, among others. For the cameras, he said he felt PSV needed to win to give the season some color. "We had not won a topper yet, we just had to win," Locadia said. Head coach Phillip Cocu said his striker shot the free kick "only at eighty percent. Afterward, Cocu complimented his team on the 1-0 win.
"We played with passion and put constant pressure to keep Ajax from playing football. I thought our play was fine for 65 minutes," the coach told FOX Sports. "We were unfortunately not able to take advantage of the space they gave away at the back in the second half. With a piece of intransigence we pulled off the win. Compliments also to the crowd who constantly stayed behind the team."
