Fleur Stoit has been in top form at PSV Women in recent weeks. The lightning-fast flank player was directly involved in four goals in the past four league games. Her strong performance did not go unnoticed, as she earned a call-up to the Dutch Junior Team and had a great week there.
This weekend, she turns her focus back to the league, with a game against FC Utrecht Women, the current number five in the premier league. "I expect an opponent who can play good football, but so can we."
You just got back from the Dutch Junior Team. What was it like to be part of that again?
"It was really super fun. I was already very happy when I was called up, and it's always nice to be part of a team like that. The trip to Portugal was great. We trained and played well, so it was a great week."
Do you gain any specific insights there that you will take with you to PSV?
"There, certain things are expected of me, such as making the most of my strength, my qualities in depth, my shot and my speed. But that's no different at PSV."
That speed is one of your strengths. Do you see that as your biggest weapon?
"Yes, I think speed is my biggest weapon. Especially since I'm learning to use it better and better, and it's often the reason I'm dangerous."
You were a striker against ADO Den Haag and FC Twente. What do those goals mean to you as an attacker?
"A lot. I'm extremely happy with it, because it shows that hard work pays off."
I like our style of play, with high pressure and attacking football.
You've been leaving a strong impression on the field in recent weeks. How are you dealing with the increasing expectations?
"I try not to think about it too much, otherwise I put unnecessary pressure on myself. I know what is expected of me and I get a lot of confidence from the staff and my teammates. As a result, I play well. I'm not changing my approach, but I hope to become more and more important to the team. I'm working hard for that."
Next weekend awaits an important duel with FC Utrecht. What do you expect?
"I expect a good footballing opponent, but we can do that too. It will be a great match in which we have to play with full commitment, stick to our plan and rely on each other."
Finally, what do you think is your team's greatest strength?
"We have a lot of quality, both in the base and on the bench. In addition, we stick well to our plan and function strongly as a team. Our style of play, with high pressure and attacking football, I think is top notch."
PSV Women - FC Utrecht Vrouwen begins Sunday at 12:15 p.m. and can be seen live on ESPN 1.
