Nina Nijstad is confidently looking forward to the important match against Ajax at the Philips Stadium, in which the leading position is at stake. The creative midfielder emphasizes that details will make the difference: "We have to be sharp in the duels."
Tomorrow's duel is of great importance in the battle for the lead. How does such a match live within the group?
"Everyone is incredibly motivated and keen to win tomorrow. We know what is at stake and what we are doing it for. We are very concentrated and focused on the game. Of course we want to win, but we also want to entertain the public as much as possible. It's special when you play in the Philips Stadium in front of so many people, then we also want to show something."
You are indeed playing in the Philips Stadium again. What is that like for you?
"Last season we played against Feyenoord in the Philips Stadium in front of a lot of people, which always gives an extra boost. The feeling that everyone is behind you and cheering for you is fantastic. It really gives extra energy."
For you, what is the best moment in your time at PSV?
"The best moment for me was when we won at the Johan Cruijff ArenA earlier this season. It felt fantastic, especially because of the great team spirit we had there. In addition, I'm proud of my strong season and the invitation to Orange."
You have already played 43 games for PSV in a season and a half. What makes you unique as a player?
"My energy on the pitch. I bring a lot of dynamism to the team, am dangerous in depth and have a good feel for deep runs. When I get in front of the goal, I am often sharp in finishing my chances. In addition, my stabbing balls are one of my strengths. I try to put teammates in position well or take the ball away."
'In the end, it's about who finishes their chances best, that's what the match depends on'
How would you describe your role on the team and what makes this team so strong?
"I can spice up the team with my character and try to motivate everyone in things like chasing off. The good dynamic is what makes our team successful. We have a close bond both on and off the field. We are a mix of different characters; one is fiery, the other seeks harmony, and that works well together. Everyone knows what their role is and executes it well."
You gave an assist in the game with Ajax in Amsterdam earlier this season. Can you take anything away from that duel?
"Our focus and motivation in that game was huge and we need to show that again tomorrow. We have to be sharp in the duels, because that can make the difference."
What kind of match are you expecting tomorrow?
"I expect a real battle on the pitch, with both teams being very sharp in the duels. Ajax is of course a strong team with many qualities, so it will be a real footballing match, but also a game in which sharpness is of great importance. In the end it's about who finishes their chances best, the match depends on that."
