After the 0-4 defeat against Feyenoord, Roger Schmidt is sour. After the match, the Head Coach has few positive words to say.
Disappointing
"The result is just disappointing. It was an important match for us, for our fans, for the top of the Eredivisie," Schmidt said in his retrospective. "We should have created and used more chances. I don't expect us to win all 34 games in the league. But we have to be ready for the most important ones, at our top level. We weren't now." A loss of this magnitude can be tough on the team. But according to Schmidt, this is the time to show character: "We have to learn from this experience. Football is not always sunshine, now we see the other side of the game. We have to learn from that and respond well."
Below par
For captain Cody Gakpo, it was a difficult afternoon. "We just underperformed. We have to play a lot of games in a short time but as PSV being PSV that should not be an excuse," the striker said. "Feyenoord were often able to get out from under our pressure. But we should have put more energy into it ourselves. We needed to be ready for the match, but we weren't. This must not happen again, the disappointment prevails."
Focus
After a number of good weeks, PSV now suffers a harsh setback. Schmidt believes it is important for the team to stay together now: "We have to show our different face in the next match. We were not connected today. The decisions were not good. We have to learn from this and have full focus again on Wednesday."
