Luuk de Jong was beaming from ear to ear after Heracles Almelo - PSV because of his decisive goal in injury time. Not for the first time this season, PSV seemed headed for a draw until the team struck in injury time. "It's wonderful to decide it like that in the last minute," he said.
'Really finish earlier'
De Jong said so in front of FOX Sports' camera, where he gave his initial reaction as captain (in Marco van Ginkel's absence). "We were stronger," De Jong felt. "But we got a penalty against from which the 1-1 fell. Then we really had to get going. We all fought for it and luckily it fell in the very last minute. We were sloppy on the ball at times today, but we created a lot of chances. We just have to make sure we score the goal sooner."
Cocu relieved
Head coach Phillip Cocu admitted after the game that PSV, despite what both Cocu and Heracles Almelo coach John Stegeman considered an unjustified penalty kick, started 2018 flawlessly with the necessary fortune. "But that doesn't make the victory taste any less," Cocu said at the press conference. Cocu saw PSV play a game with two faces. "Before halftime we played a good game," he thought. "We deservedly took the lead after we created a number of good chances. After the 1-1 we made it a run-and-flight game and that makes me less satisfied. That made it an open game, in which Jeroen Zoet had to save us a number of times. On the other hand, my team showed again that we have the drive to give in the last minute if for three points."
