The first part of the match had few chances. The first big opportunity was in the 26th minute for Teze, who volleyed hard towards goalkeeper Van Stappershoef's goal. Shortly after, a free kick by Mauro flew just wide of the goal. The visitors also had two good opportunities to open the scoring a few minutes later. A hard shot was cleverly tapped over by Van Osch and a header from the subsequent corner went just wide. However, no goals were scored in the first half.

Just after halftime, Verreth had the chance to make it 1-0. The outfielder ran alone towards goal, but then shot straight into the goalkeeper's hands. A minute later the ball was in the net. Verreth crossed for Gakpo, who tapped in at the far post. The rest of the game was much like the opening phase: the game was up and down, with no real chances.
