PSV broke open the contract of Fabian Merién and extended it by one year. The 16-year-old defender from Young PSV was already fixed until mid-2027, but a year has now been added early.
Merién, who hails from Veldhoven, made impressive strides at a young age. In 2024, he made his unofficial debut for PSV 1 at the Philips Stadium at the age of 15. His official professional debut followed on May 2 of this year, when he played with Young PSV in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie against Excelsior Rotterdam. He has since become an official part of the promising squad, which has started the season strongly with nine points from three games. In the first match of the season, at home against FC Emmen, Fabian was on the pitch together with age-mate Jaïro Beerens. It was the first time the varsity team played with two 16-year-olds in the second division.
Imperturbable
Fabian is also a regular with the youth teams of the Dutch national team. He successively came into action for Oranje O15, O16 and O17. Academy director Aloys Wijnker spoke highly of him: "I am very happy that we were able to extend your contract. Of course you are a very good player, but what makes you really special is your imperturbability. Setbacks don't affect your game. You don't let anything show on your face and you have the quality to stay on track."
After Fabian had also received nice words from his parents, he himself was given the floor: "I find it special that here, a year after my first contract, I can again put my signature under a new commitment. I am very grateful to PSV for that. Without the many opportunities and lessons I have had here, this would not have been possible. But I also want to thank my family and friends. They always and everywhere support me."
On May 2, 2024, Fabian signed his first professional contract at PSV.
