The third cup final in a row and potentially the second prize in history. That was at stake for PSV Women, which played well against FC Twente for a long time. Yet in the end it lost - albeit flatteringly - to the Tukkers.
In the opening stages there were immediately big chances for both PSV and FC Twente. The goalkeepers were not busy though, as the shots flew wide or over the goal. That would not change until the end of the first half, when FC Twente put goalkeeper Danniëlle de Jong to the test. PSV had to rely primarily on quick counterattacks, while the official home team waited patiently for an opening. That opening came just before halftime. Melanie Bross shot just under the ball. Her direct opponent took advantage: 1-0.
Fighting for what it's worth
PSV Women came out of the locker room with the right attitude, as it created an awful lot of chances. It just didn't reward itself and then the laws of football kicked in: FC Twente doubled the lead. A win, and thus the second prize in club history, was getting further and further out of sight. PSV fought for what it was worth and stormed forward with ever-increasing numbers. It only paid off in two more goals against.
