PSV failed to qualify for the semifinals of the cup tournament. Coach Phillip Cocu's team lost 1-3 to FC Utrecht at Philips Stadium, which was already leading 0-2 at halftime.
Ramselaar and Haller put PSV behind
After a relatively quiet opening phase, the first chances in the match were for PSV. Van Ginkel, who made his immediate debut with a starting place, got the first. The midfielder nodded at goal from a corner kick, but found Ruiter's hands. A few moments later, De Jong was also dangerous with his head, and again Ruiter saved. The visitors, however, did not hide. Ten Hag's team - together with Cocu still assistant under Rutten at PSV - attacked whenever there was space and also took the lead in the 32nd minute. Ramselaar scored the 0-1 on the turn. Less than ten minutes later the score was doubled by Haller. The FC Utrecht striker moved in from the left and found the net from the edge of the penalty area: 0-2.

Strike by Moreno
Thus, PSV was facing a considerable deficit at halftime. However, Cocu's team could not really unleash an attacking wave in the second half either. Indeed, it was the visitors who remained the most dangerous and decided the match in the 58th minute. Once again it was Ramselaar who scored. He dribbled past Willems and placed the ball in the far corner: 0-3. Fifteen minutes before time, Moreno created some tension by nodding in the 1-3 from a free kick, but PSV did not get any further than that.
