PSV Women will be in the final of the TOTO KNVB Cup tomorrow for the sixth time in club history. In a repeat of the final of the 2022-2023 season, PSV will again compete against FC Twente for the coveted prize.
PSV and FC Twente are competing for prizes this season: the national title and the TOTO KNVB Cup. The teams currently occupy first and second place in the league table, with an equal number of points. The Tukkers have a goal advantage of five. The mutual duels in the league were also balanced this season. In Enschede the game ended in a 0-0 draw and in Eindhoven it was also a draw (2-2). On behalf of PSV, Chimera Ripa and Fleur Stoit were the goalscorers.
Road to the final
PSV Women took a convincing route to the final. In the eighth final, they recorded a victory on familiar ground over their own promising team: Young PSV Women. Fenna Kalma scored a hat-trick, while Nina Nijstad, Riola Xhemaili, Shanique Dessing and Joëlle Smits also scored goals. In the quarterfinals, Roeland ten Berge 's team won 2-1 against AZ Women. PSV was trailing for a long time, until Melanie Bross scored the equalizer. In the 87th minute, Xhemaili decided the game with a penalty kick.
PSV Women then convincingly qualified for the final by beating Feyenoord Women 3-0. The goals were scored by Renate Jansen, Fenna Kalma and Shanique Dessing.
Final history
PSV is in the cup final for the seventh time, but managed to capture the prize only once so far. Four times the Women lost to Ajax and once to FC Twente. In the 2020-2021 season, PSV crowned themselves cup winners for the first time by beating ADO Den Haag 1-0 in the final, thanks to a raking header by Joëlle Smits. Remarkably, PSV captain Gwyneth Hendriks was still on the other side at the time and played against PSV.
FC Twente has been in the cup final four times and went home with the win in three of those finals. The most recent final for the Tukkers was in 2023, in which they took on PSV. FC Twente won 4-0, with Renate Janssen scoring on behalf of Twente.
