PSV will take on Feyenoord on Wednesday night at home for the quarterfinals of the TOTO KNVB Beker. With eight cup matches at the Philips Stadium, of which PSV won four, two ended in a draw and Feyenoord emerged victorious twice, it shows how unpredictable this encounter is every time.
The last time the Rotterdammers visited for the Cup tournament was in 2013. After an exciting game, PSV went through in the Cup after a 2-1 victory. Mark van Bommel and Dries Mertens were the celebrated men on PSV's side. But also in recent years, PSV and Feyenoord have met in the cup tournament. Peter Bosz 's team, for example, visited De Kuip in the eighth final last season, where it was eliminated after losing 1-0.
TOTO KNVB Cup
PSV has already played two matches this cup season, both at home. The last time PSV also got to play the first three cup rounds at home, it won the KNVB Beker (2021-2022 season). Bosz's team started the series with a big 8-0 victory over Koninklijke HFC.
Over a month later, an opponent from the port city also awaited: Excelsior Rotterdam. For a long time it looked as if PSV would strand its cup adventure that night, with the Rotterdammers leading 0-2 and then 1-3, but nothing could be further from the truth. With a goal by Ricardo Pepi in the 86th minute and the equalizer in the absolute final seconds of injury time, through Ismael Saibari, PSV dragged an extension out of the fire. In that extra time, Peter Bosz 's team stepped up the pressure and Ivan Perišić finally fired in the winning goal.
Unlike PSV, Feyenoord already had to play two away games, with the third bringing them to our Philips Stadium. What both teams have in common is that they both faced a First Divisionist and an amateur club in the cup. Feyenoord started against MVV Maastricht, where it won 2-1, and then beat Rijnsburgse Boys in that round. So for both teams, this duel is the first real cracker in the cup tournament with the current cup winner, Feyenoord. Against PSV, which won the Cup two years in a row before that.
Milestone
Mauro Júnior could be playing his 150th official game for PSV. The Brazilian made it on the pitch in both previous Cup matches and accounted for two more assists last round of play.
