PSV will meet Cody Gakpo's Liverpool FC in the final match of the league phase. Although placement for the next round seems close, Peter Bosz does not want to take any risks: "The chance that we don't go through is still there, so we will go for at least one point."
PSV has historically had little luck against Liverpool FC. The Eindhoven natives have never recorded an official victory over the English superpower. The last encounters date back to 2008, when PSV lost 3-1 both at home and away. In the two seasons before that, the two teams also faced each other. PSV held Liverpool FC to a one-goal draw, but had to acknowledge their superiority in the other games.
Philips Stadion
PSV is already unbeaten in thirteen consecutive European home games at the Philips Stadium. That impressive run began after a 0-1 defeat against Rangers FC on Aug. 24, 2022. Since then they have beaten Arsenal, Sevilla FC and Girona FC, among others. In total, PSV has not lost 53 home games in a row, an achievement that extends across all competitions.
League phase
In the league phase of the UEFA Champions League, PSV is currently in nineteenth place with eleven points. This makes placement for the next round virtually safe, although there is still a very small chance of elimination. Liverpool FC has so far won all its matches on the highest European stage. Thanks to victories over AC Milan (1-3), Bologna FC (2-0), RB Leipzig (0-1), Bayer 04 (4-0), Real Madrid (2-0), Girona FC (0-1) and Lille OSC (2-1), the formation is proudly on top.
Both clubs
Cody Gakpo has been one of the standouts at Liverpool FC this season. The Eindhoven native made the switch to 'The Reds' at the end of 2022, after wearing the PSV shirt 159 times. This makes him the eighth player to play for both PSV and Liverpool FC. Glenn Hysén, Erik Meijer, Boudewijn Zenden, Abel Xavier, Jan Kromkamp, Ki-Jana Hoever and Georginio Wijnaldum preceded him.
