On the website of the Eindhovens Dagblad, the newspaper conducted a poll to gauge what fans think the outcome will be. As many as 78% of respondents think the evening will end in a victory for PSV. 10% think a draw and 12% assume a defeat for PSV. So most fans are confident of a good result tonight at Philips Stadium.
VI: 'PSV meets Sporting at a favorable time '
Sam Planting of Voetbal International has made an analysis of PSV's opponent in the Europa League: "On paper, Sporting Lisbon is the toughest opponent in PSV's Europa League group. The Portuguese formation contains bluntly better players than the other opponents. But the Eindhoveners seem to be meeting Sporting at a rather favorable time. Because for the umpteenth time in recent years, it is hommeles in Lisbon." The journalist thinks PSV's attack is well suited to do something to Sporting: "With Donyell Malen, Steven Bergwijn, Bruma and Mo Ihattaren, there is a particularly agile attacking quartet on the pitch. Dumfries: 'Always special to play in Europe '
In conversation with FOX Sports, Denzel Dumfries looks ahead to the match with Sporting Lisbon. "It's always special to play in Europe, it's very much alive. It is a good gauge for us to see how far we are. We want to get a good result," said the right-back. "I always compete to win. I want to get the most out of the team and that we do everything we can to get as far as possible. You know from the past that Sporting is a good club, I checked with Bruma. We have to get going, but I have a lot of confidence in our team."
Bruma: 'On the field, only winning for your own club counts '
PSV's Bruma previously played in the green and white of Sporting Lisbon. The outfielder went through the youth training of the Portuguese club. In conversation with the Eindhovens Dagblad, he looks ahead to the match. He seems to have no intention of holding back against his old club: "In Portugal, Sporting is the club of my heart, because I played there for eight years. So the fact that coincidence has linked PSV and the club in the Europa League feels very special to me. I do remain a professional footballer and can keep this love and football apart if I have to. On the pitch during the match, the only thing that counts is winning for your own club."
