PSV Women will visit ADO Den Haag for the 20th time on Sunday. Recent encounters show that three points are by no means a given. For Renate Jansen, who wore the Hague shirt between 2008 and 2015, the game will be a special milestone in her career.
In the last nineteen away games against ADO Den Haag, PSV Women managed to win only five times. Six games ended in a draw and eight were won by ADO. The Hague team therefore has a slight advantage historically. The goal difference also shows that these are often games with limited margins: PSV Women scored 22 goals, while they conceded 26.
Last three duels
Yet PSV Women have remained unbeaten in the last three meetings between them. In April 2023 PSV Women won 1-2, in September of the same year the game ended scoreless. The most recent encounter in January 2025 resulted in another 1-1 draw.
Milestone on familiar ground
Renate Jansen can play her 300th game in the Eurojackpot Eredivisie on Sunday, a historic milestone, as she is the first to reach that number. The moment gets extra shine because the game is against ADO Den Haag: the club where she began her career. "It is of course a special milestone," she says. "I've been playing in the Eredivisie for so long and the fact that I can play my 300th game against ADO, the place where it all started, and on my birthday as well ... that makes it extra special."
Looking back on a long and proud career
When she looks back on her career, pride prevails. "When I was young, I mainly just wanted to play good football. I've always done that. Then I made the step to FC Twente and noticed that I was actually ready to go abroad, but due to circumstances that never happened. In recent years I have started to enjoy being a professional football player more and more. As you get older, you realize more and more how special that is. I've had a lot of great, fun years and I look back on them with a lot of pride." According to Renate, that greater realization comes naturally: "You experience more in your life, you learn that nothing comes naturally and that you have to keep working hard. That's precisely why you appreciate it even more later."
Looking ahead to Sunday
That her milestone takes place in The Hague makes the moment even more meaningful. "I played there for a long time and started there. To play my 300th game at ADO in my last season, which I have also announced, feels very special." About the match itself, she is clear. Although historically PSV Women often have difficult duels in The Hague, ADO is at the bottom this season with one point. Still, she does not underestimate the opponent. "ADO is originally a team that fights for every meter, wants to conquer balls and does everything to score as well as to stop us. We will probably have the ball more, so it is important that we are careful, pass well and stay patient. We have to take advantage of opportunities. I think we are the better team, but you should never put away a team with one point. We just have to take the three points."
