PSV won their first prize of the season Sunday night, in the form of the Johan Cruijff Schaal. According to head coach Peter Bosz, his players still have some getting used to each other. Meanwhile, Peter has nice words to say for Luuk de Jong, whose departure to FC Porto was announced during the game.
Are you getting used to it?
"No winning prizes certainly doesn't get used to it, I'm very happy with it."
Julie gave away several chances before halftime.
"Well, I thought it wasn't too bad. I think three chances and that involved some individual mistakes. Although I must admit it was a good goal from them. And they also started the game better, but 0-1 at halftime was a bit flattered."
So why not score?
"They were behind the ball with the whole team. There was often a leg between them. That is difficult and they do that well."
How do you further analyze the match?
"I thought the build-up was a bit slow. That is also because we are playing with a number of new guys. The guys still have to get used to each other. By the way, we are playing against a good opponent, with a team that remained big and partly intact. So those automatisms were still there. With us it was a little less so."
The central duo covered very far, was that the intention?
"This is coordination. Ideally they pass a man, but sometimes that is difficult. When a team plays with each other longer, it's easier."
What did you think of Guus Til's performance?
"Guus is a phenomenon within his field. He often runs deep and players who run deep often score goals. I don't always use him from the start, but I know that when I bring him on, that doesn't sit well with the opponent."
Luuk is off to FC Porto, what will you miss about him?
"I think Luuk is a good person. That is the most important thing, also in our profession. Besides that, he is a very good footballer and the best header. He has been very important to me for two years. I regret that he is gone, but it is his right. I wish him all the best."
Did you try to keep him here?
"I have spoken to him several times, but I have always respected his choice. I can call him every week, but he knows how I feel about him, how good I think he is. But I'm going to miss having him at the end of our crosses."
Will Nick Olij be disappointed now that he is on the bench?
"He came here with the idea that we were going to get another goalkeeper and that he had to fight for his place. But the fact that he's not playing now will be galling."
