PSV rightly lost to Atletico Madrid. That is what head coach Peter Bosz said at the press conference afterwards. The coach says that especially striker Sørloth caused a lot of problem.
How do you analyze the match?
"We were not good enough football-wise and they deservedly won. The start was ours and we had a huge chance for the second goal. After that we had a very difficult time. They played very aggressively. Normally we play underneath that, but now we didn't really get to play football anymore. Until the end, when we came back unexpectedly."
If you had to describe the match with one word?
"Disappointing. We had three chances to take three points. Now we have two more. And it could have been a nice night at the end, with that ball from Obispo. But just not this time."
Could Couhaib have been more selfish?
"Yes, but he was our most threatening striker. They couldn't get a grip on him."
Why did it slip away after that good phase?
"We couldn't get a grip on the long balls to Sørloth. The second balls were all for them, and so they immediately surrounded a man or five. We tried to change that, but we didn't really succeed."
What did you say to the boys afterwards?
"That they have to learn from this. We've been doing that for two and a half years: learning from the best and getting better. Next time we play a similar team we have to do better again."
You said beforehand that it would be a tactically difficult match. Was it?
"Definitely, they have so many options up front that you have to prepare for. It became Sørloth, who held the balls. We couldn't get a grip on that."
Is this the best team you have faced so far in the UEFA Champions League?
"I find that hard to say, but at least the hardest to play against."
What were the bright spots today?
"The return of Ivan [Perišić]. He also filled in really well. Besides that, nobody gave up. It turned into a match again and could have taken another point."
