After a football-free weekend, PSV's o15 entered league action again. In the previous round they won by 1-2 against Ajax in Amsterdam. Today's opponent also achieved a great result by winning a point against Feyenoord (2-2) after being 0-2 down.
With Willem II we have a real regional derby. A match that is usually emotionally charged. Until now Willem II has played a modest role in the league. With 2 wins, as many draws and 3 losses, the team from Tilburg is in the 2nd block of the league table. In this respect, there is a beautiful dichotomy after 7 rounds: 7 teams have now reached double figures. The other 7 teams are still (well) under 10 points.
As said, games against Willem II are often separate from other games. Especially in view of next week's game against frontrunner Feyenoord, PSV could not and could not afford to lose a point at home.
Nevertheless, the first big chance of the match was for the Tilburgers. In the 3rd minute they quickly converted and it was thanks to a brilliant save by Victor Camps that it did not become 0-1. It was a bit of a scare. But in itself that was not strange today as it was Halloween.....
PSV seemed to have woken up and a minute later launched an attack. Via Mees Kreekels, Yorbe Vertessen the ball came to Mo Ihattaren. He shot at goal, but the goalkeeper saved. The attack continued and Yorbe also had a great chance for the opening goal. Once again the Tilburg goalie distinguished himself by making a fine save.
After Mo and Damian Timan also missed a chance to make it 1-0, it finally happened in the 12th minute. With a nice pass Mo enabled Yorbe to score the opening goal.
In the 20th minute, PSV was close to scoring their second goal. Yorbe took off on the left and passed the ball to Stijn van der Put, who just couldn't reach the ball to finish. It turned out to be just a stay of execution because less than a minute later the 2-0 was on the scoreboard. Damian received the ball from Mo and shot the ball fabulously into the right cross! What a wonderful goal!!!
Before halftime Mo made it 3-0 after he turned away well on the edge of the 16 meters and took a hard shot.
Apart from the first few minutes, PSV dominated the entire first half and played at a high level. It was enjoyable on the bench. And also in the stands people enjoyed the game and the lovely autumn sun. In fact, it was waiting for more Eindhoven goals. And they did come in the 2nd half. In fact, they fell as easily as the leaves on the trees at this time of year.
In the 40th minute, Mathijs Bel sent striker Yorbe into the depths. He could only be stopped at the cost of a foul. And since this one was inside the infamous lines, the referee could do nothing but point to the penalty spot. Captain Damian took care of the penalty and slid the ball in in a very controlled manner: 4-0.
Less than 5 minutes later it was even 5-0. At first the pass from Yorbe to Damian was intercepted. But after Yorbe received the ball again, he steamed towards the Willem II goal. His effort was eventually extended by Damian and promoted to a goal, making his 3rd of the afternoon.
With more than fifteen minutes to play Yorbe took the score to 6-0. He headed a good cross from Thijs Martens high up into the ropes. A minute later the score was 7-0 thanks to substitute Beslan Sagov, who ran along with an attack and converted Yorbe's assist into a goal.
After an hour of play Willem II was finally dangerous. After an awarded free kick near the back line, PSV did not get rid of the ball at first, causing it to linger long and dangerously in front of goal. In the end, however, the home team got out unscathed.
In the 63rd minute, it was again Beslan who managed to find the net. Elgero King came right through the axis of the pitch and played the ball into the space between the Willem II goalkeeper and Beslan. The goalkeeper saved at first and tapped the ball away, but Beslan did not change his mind and scored 8-0 with a beautiful half-take.
PSV went looking for more in the closing stages. And was close to an even bigger score. Yorbe unfortunately hit the aluminum, Mees headed the roof of the goal and the debutant Fodé Fofana almost crowned his first official game for PSV with a goal. He received the ball from Mo, who first pulled off a few magic tricks a la Hans Klok, and shot from just outside the 16 meters towards the top left corner. Unfortunately for him, the Willem II goalkeeper was able to save with a stylish safe.
Thus the match ended in a very nice and spacious victory for PSV. A more than deserved victory and PSV filled up their confidence for the two match against Feyenoord with a big result, but also with good football. Indeed, next week follows the topper against leaders Feyenoord. The following week the Rotterdammers come to Eindhoven where they decide who will advance to the quarterfinals.
