  1. Match report

Hard-fought victory PSV F1 over Nuenen

In the newly started E-competition there are 2 competitors left for the undefeated PSV, namely Wilhelmina Boys and Nuenen. The latter visited the Herdgang today.
PSV got off to a good start and the first attack could only narrowly be cleared off the line by a Nuenen defender. After this, it quickly became clear that Nuenen did not just give away the points.
The defense stood as an excellent block. But they did not just come to defend today. Through good combination play they managed to keep the PSV players far from their own goal. Add to this the fact that the Nuenen players had started this match just a little bit brighter and everyone soon saw that it was going to be a hot morning.
Ball loss by Jordan was mercilessly punished by a Nuenen player. After a nice passing move he drove the ball hard and high above the chance-less Merijn into the goal: 0-1.
It took until the 10th minute before PSV managed to set up another good attack. A nice pass from Bjorn was worked past the Nuenen goalkeeper by Cody in 2 instances: 1-1.
A minute later it was Ruud who scored with his left foot: 2-1.
The Nuenen players did not leave it at that, however, and managed to punish unconcentrated defending again. First a player from nearby was attentive and in injury time a nicely taken corner was suddenly shot in with a fine volley: 2-3.
We will never know what coach Bastiaan explained at halftime, but in the second half the game turned completely around.
Still, PSV even got to a (unprecedented this season) 2-4 deficit. Once again a Nuenen player was fiercer / more physical on the ball and once again the player was free to strike: 2-4.
What was striking about this deficit was the fact that people realized that today they had to work together. They continued to encourage and coach each other positively. Who else than James was responsible for the tying goal.
On character he stayed on the ball and with an almost impossible punt with his left over the goalkeeper he brought PSV back in the game.
From this moment it was over for Nuenen and the PSV players were unstoppable.
It was mainly Cody and Luc who started to make the difference. At the 4-4 it was Luc who after good through work put Cody in position to score.
Shortly after, Luc shot a well-aimed distance shot into the far top corner to give PSV the lead and it was Cody who with a real "Cody-time" action managed to bring the score to a reassuring 6-4.
Nuenen was completely upset for a moment and Luc took advantage of this with 2 long-distance shots, the last one almost from the sideline!
Final score in this very nice match (thanks to Nuenen): 8-4.
