For the C2 of PSV there was a nice match on the program today. At home they could play against Ajax C2. And a nice match it would be.
Before the winter break they also practiced against the guys from Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, PSV was too strong with a 0-1 victory. Also then it was an exciting and nice match to see, which was again the case today. Because actually from the beginning it was an open match. Although Ajax may have had a slight advantage in the first half in terms of field play, the really big chances were for PSV. Sherry, for example, hit the post after going 1:1 with the goalkeeper. The preparatory work had been by Memphis and Gijs. Ajax quickly played the long ball to the very good and fast striker. From here they could become very dangerous which also resulted in some chances, but no goals as yet.
However, this lasted until the 21st minute. It is the same 'number 9' who manages to find the goal, bringing the score to 0-1, a setback for the men from Eindhoven. Because after a good attack and a cross the striker of Ajax manages to extend the ball towards the second post and leaves Jesse without a chance. It is and remains an open match and chances keep coming back and forth. Just before half time PSV strikes mercilessly. Because exactly 1 minute before the tea break, in the 34th minute, it is Memphis who brings the score back into balance. It is Nabiu who puts good pressure on his direct opponent who in turn then loses the ball. Nabiu dribbles a few meters and tries to reach Memphis already but the pass seems to be intercepted by the last man. In his turn he does not manage to get hold of the ball anyway and Memphis is able to run through towards the Ajax goal and manages to finish the job well, 1-1!
After half time, PSV took the game a bit more to themselves. Where Ajax is slightly better in the first half, PSV is, especially the second and last part of the second half. It is waiting until the 55th minute before there is a goal and this is for the Eindhoveners. Because after a beautiful and well-cut cross from right-winger Nabiu, Memphis manages to nod the ball into the long corner in a wonderful way, floating like a real striker. A goal from the proverbial book. In the 61st minute, as if the luck couldn't run out, it becomes 3-1. After again good pressure from PSV, Sherry takes the ball from an opponent and runs towards goal. He hesitates for a moment and fires the ball into the net with his right hand. The emotion is great because the game seems to be played.
SEEMS! Because less than 3 minutes later the ball is back in at the other end. So after 64 minutes it is 3-2 and the boys seem to remember the scenario against Feyenoord at home. Then too a safe lead was given up. And also this time fate would strike. In one of the last minutes of the game Ajax got a corner. This by the way after another great save by Jesse who taps the ball out of the cross and turns it into a corner. One of the many good saves Jesse would make this afternoon. The ball falls a little unfortunate in between and it is Burak who is the most unfortunate and accidentally works the ball into his own goal. Now it is celebration on the Amsterdam side and the points would be shared this afternoon.
All in all still a nice and exciting match for the spectators but unfortunately for the boys no 3 points. Still they deserve the credits for this good match!
