PSV started the match well but had to allow their opponent to take the lead. After 8 minutes Helmond Sport's striker was played in from the left, with a cutting move he left a PSV defender standing and was then able to pass our goalkeeper with a placed ball 1-0. Five minutes later PSV got a free kick. After a wide pass Sven shot at goal. Unfortunately the ball went outside the post and went wide. Shortly before the end of the 1st period Helmond Sport shot on the crossbar, in the rebound Lander was back just in time to catch the ball before the line.
In the 2nd period Helmond Sport started well. After about half an hour Helmond Sport got a penalty for bringing down an attacker. The penalty kick was badly shot in and fortunately went wide. Meanwhile the battle was fierce from both sides. Livano crossed the line and brought down an opponent from behind just over the halfway line. Livano had to leave the field for 5 minutes and rightly so.
Helmond Sport stepped up the pressure in a no holds barred situation. Thanks to excellent goalkeeping by Lander, PSV remained in this situation. After PSV was complete again, Sven managed to break through and went off alone towards the goalkeeper. With a successful passing move Sven passed the goalkeeper but was pushed to the ground by the keeper. From this PSV only got a free kick and the Helmond Sport goalkeeper did not even have to leave the pitch. Here the referee was inconsistent and PSV was shortchanged. Towards the end of the 2nd, Sven did get what he was entitled to. On a pass from Chahid, Sven again went at the goalkeeper alone but this time shot the ball skillfully under him 1-1.
In the third half there were two more big chances for Helmond Sport. In both cases Lander came well out of his goal to narrow the angle. Both chances were therefore not taken advantage of and went wide of the goal.
PSV is looking for more resistance to keep playing good positional play even under pressure. This did not quite go well today so we were restless in the build-up. You deserve all the compliments today because you worked very hard for each other. Well done!
