At 10 a.m. today the match Fortuna Sittard - PSV kicked off in Sittard. After last week's loss we were keen to rectify this today.
We started strongly. We had a lot of ball possession and we became more and more dangerous in front of the Fortuna goal. In the tenth minute Tim, on the right side, sent Joep into the depth. After a good action he put the ball back to Mats. He shot against the goalkeeper, but Joris was quick to tap in the rebound. 0-1. A good attack and a real striker's goal. We were never in trouble and we played strong.
In the second half we went on merrily. After a perfect cross from Mylian, Martijn pushed the ball just wide. Joep also became very dangerous on the right side. The 0-2 could not be long away. In the 33rd minute it was Joey who managed to score. He got the ball from the Fortuna goalkeeper and with a placed slide he tapped the ball in. 0-2. A deserved lead. Fortuna Sittard was dangerous in the counter, but did not get anything else.
After the break we hoped to hold on and make the decisive 0-3 quickly. Unfortunately the opposite happened. In six minutes Fortuna scored twice. 2-2. We still had ten minutes to put this right. Martijn, Joris and Joey also had chances for the 2-3, but had no luck in finishing. Final score: 2-2.
We played perhaps our best game of the season today. On the ball we made the right choices, we worked hard and we excelled in our technique. We also learned that we must not slacken for a moment, that will be punished immediately. Next week we go to Den Bosch, we play there at 10.30 am.
