PSV maintained its unbeaten status in the league in and against FC Groningen. After 3 draws in a row, the first win of the season was recorded in Groningen. PSV controlled the entire match and expressed the superiority in a generous score, in which a leading role was reserved for striker Joey Konings, who did good business on the top scorers list and added 4 dashes to his name.

PSV did not really get into trouble the entire match, helped by the comfortable 0-3 lead that was realized early in the first half. The Groningers hardly created any chances in the first half, except for a header from a free kick that bounced off the post. By then Joey Konings had already put PSV ahead with 2 good goals, the 0-2 of which came from a free kick in which he guessed well that the Groningen wall would jump, and he shot the ball under the wall tightly into the short corner. Arnaut Groeneveld then made it 0-3 from a nice attack that allowed him to get alone in front of the Groningen goalkeeper and finished in a controlled manner by wrong-footing it and tapping in.

The second half had barely begun when Groningen helped PSV to extend their lead. A fine cross from the up and coming Tom Scheepers was worked into his own goal at the far post by Groninger Hoekstra. PSV then steadily ran out to the final 7 goals, although Groningen scored another goal from one of the few situations in which they managed to penetrate the Eindhoven penalty area. Although all PSV goals were the result of well-executed attacks or fine individual actions, the moment of the match was for right striker Elmo Hertogh, although it did not lead to a goal. In the '48th minute Joey Konings put through well on the left flank, after which his cross reached the completely free Elmo on the right in the 16, who suddenly grabbed the falling ball from the air on his shoe and saw it disappear only just cross wide of the Groningen goal.

A good game and a fine result for Kristof Aelbrecht's team, which awaits next week's away game against AZ.
