After a fantastic weekend in England with very good play, today we played our 2nd pool match in the cup tournament, opponent was Excelsior from Rotterdam.
The first pool match we had won handsomely against AFC.
We started the game incredibly well and after 1:20 it was already in, after a sublime pass from Gaetan, it was our rising left back Lars who could shoot the ball in diagonally.
After that the home team did get some chances due to sloppy defending from our side.
Again after sloppy defending it was Excelsior who equalized shortly before half time. The next attack Baggio came through on the right flank and with a low cross he could reach Cody who shot the 2-1 from the corner.
In the break it was pointed out that we had to run the ball faster to stay out of the duels, but defensively we had to challenge our physically stronger opponent.
In the second half very little happened, we did not win any duels and the initiative lay with our opponent. In the end Excelsior was also unable to score.
This result puts us in a good position to reach the next cup round, our last opponent in this group is FC Volendam.
