Heerenveen/Emmen A1 - PSV A1 2 - 0.


The road to Susteren passes Heerenveen today. Upon arrival it appears that we have indeed arrived in the far north as the weather conditions here are a lot less than when we left the Herdgang. But anyway, we are here to play the semi-final for the cup, so no complaints. And as is worthy of a cup match, a lot of things happen in this match as well. In a high tempo first half, no goals are scored but at halftime the score could easily have been 3-3 or 4-4. Quick play and nice, even open chances, are not for the attackers. It must be said, however, that Eric Verstappen in particular distinguished himself today in goal with fantastic saves.
Despite the cold, we stay warm on the bench. After the break, events followed in rapid succession. In the 47th minute Heerenveen took advantage of a slip in our backline and the 1-0 is a fact. After 10 minutes there was even a red card for Heerenveen's number 9. This is the signal for us to go on the offensive. But just like before the break, we were unable to reach the net. During the second heroft all sorts of southern European situations took place on the pitch, but the score remained the same. During the fast counters by Heerenveen, they came dangerous in front of our goal again and again, but each time Eric was at his post. And so the game went up and down. In the 89th minute an unfortunate move by Menno led to a penalty kick and Eric had no defense. Heerenveen held on to the 2-0 score until the end.
Our cup competition started with the match against Willem II and in the eventual final it would be the same opponent. But the road to Susteren has come to an end in Heerenveen.
Next week there is still another final on the schedule because in the match against Ajax we can still influence the standings in our league and determine who will eventually become champion.
