This week the match against Sparta was scheduled. A top match because both teams, except for 1 draw, had won all their matches. So the stakes were first place.

The match featured resistance, tension, chances, goals and a very interesting score sequence. Especially in the first minutes everything happened. A mistake in our build-up was mercilessly punished after 1 min by Sparta. After 6 min it was already 2-1 for PSV. Robin Schoonbrood who curled a free kick fantastic into the top corner and Yasin Aalillou who tapped in a nicely set up attack were the goal scorers. Unfortunately, right after that we were surprised by a long ball from Sparta to their fast left winger who presented the striker with a chance he couldn't miss. 10 minutes played and a 2-2 on the scoreboard. After this opening phase, it was PSV who had five 100% chances. Goalkeeper, post, crossbar and some lack of sharpness from our players prevented Sparta from falling behind. Half-time score 2-2.
After half time there was only one team playing for the win and that was PSV. Sparta limited themselves to defending on their own half and hoped for a quick counter. PSV played a good second half but were unable to maintain the sharpness and overview to turn chances into goals in the final stages. Until James Fofana decided to come up and shoot the ball into the top corner with a curve. 3-2 and game played you would think. A frugal counter by the Spartans, was finished off by the striker and PSV had to go looking for the win again. And that happened when Robin Schoonbrood again had the opportunity to take a free kick. This time he chose the other corner and left the Sparta goalkeeper without a chance. It is clear that individual training pays off!
PSV played out the match calmly and eventually managed to keep the 3 points in Eindhoven, which by the way was more than deserved.
